PSG (Polysomnography) Diagnostic Study
This procedure is the initial sleep study to help diagnose several sleep disorders including sleep apnea, narcolepsy, REM behavior disorder, insomnia and a number of other sleep disorders.
CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) overnight sleep study
This procedure is done to treat sleep apnea. It is very similar to the initial PSG, however an additional device is used to help control apnea episodes. The technician will fit the patient for a CPAP mask and customize the pressure to treat patients specific level of apnea to ensure proper use and efficacy.

Preparing for your sleep study
On the day of your study, eat a good breakfast, lunch and dinner. Refrain from alcohol on the day of the study as well as any caffeine intake after 2pm.
What to bring
Something comfortable to sleep in (T-shirt and shorts). Please do not wear silk, satin, nylon or polyester. These materials can cause static and may interfere with the test. Bring all toiletry items that you would normally take for an overnight stay (e.g. pajamas, toothbrush, toothpaste), and any medications you currently take. If you are on CPAP, bring your current mask with you. Also, you need to bring your ID and insurance card and any forms or questionnaires you have completed. You are welcome to bring drinks or snacks as well as personal linens (blanket, pillow)
What not to bring
You may bring your cell phone or laptop, however you will be asked to turn them off during the test. Family members are discouraged from staying with the patient unless approved by the manager or in special circumstances. Alcohol and illicit drugs are prohibited at the facility.
On the day of your test
Patients requiring the services of a caregiver during the night must bring someone with them who can stay throughout the procedure to provide needed assistance if necessary. Please call in advance if the patient will need assistance or is bringing a caregiver.
Do not take any naps and come with a clean, dry head of hair and NO MAKE UP.
Bring all medications with you that you normal take at night and in the morning. If you take a sleep aid, you may bring it with you, however only take it AFTER you are safely at the facility. Please inform your technologist when you take your sleep aid as it will affect your sleep time.
Results
Results for all testing will be faxed to your physician and will typically be available within 10 working days. If you provided an email address when scheduling your appointment, results can be emailed to you.
